Care Tips

Like many materials found in footwear and apparel, cork footbeds and EVA soles can be damaged by exposure to concentrated heat or extreme temperatures. Do not leave your shoes in direct sunlight for extended periods or in closed cars on hot days. Keep Birkenstock footwear away from campfires, fireplaces, and indoor radiators. If your shoes become wet, allow them to air dry slowly, away from direct heat.

Birkenstock sandals and clogs come with a light coating of cork sealer on the exposed cork edge. This protects the cork and prevents it from drying out. For further information regarding sealant available in South Africa, please contact customer service:

To keep your footwear fresh and clean, brush the suede footbeds with a Birkenstock Care Brush to pull up dirt and to restore the nap. Regular use will also keep the suede leather smooth and soft.

The outside cleaning edge of the brush can be used to remove dirt and access hard-to reach spots, as well as stains on natural leather.

The fine rubber brush can be used to comb the natural fibers / nap of suede leather and restore the look.

Brushes are available for purchase online and in stores.

  • Birko-flor and Birko-flor Nubuck uppers - simply wipe clean with a damp cloth. Try soap and water to remove stubborn stains.

Please bear in mind that any cleaning or treatment can change the look and finish of the materials.

The Birkenstock Cork Sealer is now available in all stores.

How it works:

- It keeps cork from drying out and getting brittle, whilst locking out moisture and protecting it from undue wear caused by the elements.

- It dries clean in 15 minutes and cleans up with water.

- Apply a very thin layer to cork surfaces only.

- Reapply when needed or every two to four months
